Chez Monsieur

After enjoying one of the finest preparations of blanquette de veau that I have ever savored, I hereby dub this elegant bistro, The House of Blanquette de Veau.

The first signs of autumn; wind, declining temperatures and woolen mufflers around the necks of parisiennes, appeared, dictating a rib-sticking meal. Although I regularly dine at Carole Colin’s Les Climats, this was my first visit to the bistro she has owned since 2002.

TGPAGA step above the typical bistro, furnishings were classic with a touch of modernity and after the exchange of bisous, Carole seated my at a corner table where I could observe the dining room and be seen by my daughter when she arrived.

We shared twelve escargots traditionally prepared with butter and parsley washed down by a Menetou-Salon as palate whetter for the main courses.

hake

Patricia opted for roasted hake with spinach shoots and hazlenuts and I,of course, chose the blanquette de veau, presented in a deep copper saucepan containing enough for two generous servings.

Chez Monsieur is everything you could ask for in a bistro: excellent, uncomplicated food, elegant yet casual ambience and good wines by the glass at reasonable prices. If a shortage of calves occurs, blame it on me.
