Le Comptoir

If you are walking up the Carrefour de l’Odéon at about 11:45 AM stop and join the line in front of Le Comptoir. At precisely noon you will be ushered to a table and served a classic Paris bistro meal at correct prices while you observe the latecomers lining up for the second sitting.

comptoir 1

Chef Yves Camdeborde’s quaint bistro has quickly become a fixture in the neighborhood for both hungry tourists and knowledgeable locals. On a beautiful, sunny day, I was joined by my pal Sanjay, the 4-star concierge of the 3-star Artus Hotel who started with foie gras de Landes.  I found the buttery-soft boudin noir with a crunchy top served in a terrine to be irresistible.

comptoir 2

I selected a 2009 Cotes du Roussillon Les Foulard Rouges La Soif du Mal to see us through the meal that was followed by roasted salmon for Sanjay and a succulent canard farci for me.

Portions are generous and the balance between French and English speakers will allow you to get to know your neighbors, if you like.

PS: Preferential seating for guests of the Hotel Relais Saint-Germain.
