A tour exploring the art and ideas behind Dan Brown's best-selling thriller The Da Vinci Code. You and your own private "symbologist" revisit Robert Langdon's Parisian adventures in and around the Musée du Louvre. This tour begins and ends where his fictional caper does. Of course, the Louvre is so much more than simply the setting where that breathless action unfolded. Its works of art can answer many of the questions provocatively posed in the book. Do Leonardo's paintings reveal hidden symbolism? Is the true nature of Mary Magdalene's relationship with Christ expressed in paintings depicting her? Is it really the case that Christian art recycles symbols from earlier so-called "pagan" cultures? We'll visit galleries on and off the beaten track--from Greek terra cottas to Renaissance masterpieces in the Grande Galerie--in an effort to answer these questions and more. Our instructors are trained and experienced art historians. They are native English speakers, with teaching experience at top American universities, including Harvard University, New York University and University of California at Berkeley. They live in Paris because they are preparing publications and/or writing their Ph.D. dissertations in art history.

Our tours are arranged at your convenience, not ours. There is no need to waste precious Paris time standing in line to purchase your tickets. We’ll arrange your tickets in advance. Price of admission is included in the price of the tour. (Each museum has adopted different security procedures. You may have to wait for a bag check, but never for tickets. Your guide will let you know.)

After your trip, you can continue your learning experience at home. Each instructor will give you a reading list (including films and other museums) to help you explore your topic in further detail.

Private Tour Option: €20 surcharge to guarantee that your party has a one-on-one tour with the instructor, without other parties. (No tour, however, will ever be larger than four people unless you specifically request it).
