This tour explores each of the major modern art movements from the period of the Musée d'Orsay's collections (1848-1914). We begin with Corot, the Barbizon School, early Manet and Degas on the first floor, in order to understand how these innovations paved the way for the Impressionists on the upper levels.

The Orsay's famed collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist painting will be the primaryfocus of our visit. We look closely at works by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh, and Toulouse-Lautrec, with an eye for how each artist and generation influenced and challenged the next.

The tour is designed to give you both an solid art historical overview and an opportunity to know key masterpieces in the collection quite well.

Our instructors are trained and experienced art historians. They are native English speakers, with teaching experience at top American universities, including Harvard University, New York University and University of California at Berkeley. They live in Paris because they are preparing publications and/or writing their Ph.D. dissertations in art history.

Your Time is Precious
Our tours are arranged at your convenience, not ours. There is no need to waste precious Paris time standing in line to purchase your tickets. We’ll arrange your tickets in advance. Price of admission is included in the price of the tour. (Each museum has adopted different security procedures. You may have to wait for a bag check, but never for tickets. Your guide will let you know.)

The price of admission is included in the price of the tour, which means you are free to explore more of the museum on your own after your Paris Muse session is over.

Après Paris
After your trip, you can continue your learning experience at home. Each instructor will give you a reading list (including films and other museums) to help you explore your topic in further detail.

Private Tour Option: €20 surcharge to guarantee that your party has a one-on-one tour with the instructor, without other parties. (No tour, however, will ever be larger than four people unless you specifically request it).
